A specialist recycling firm is to create up to 30 new jobs as part of a relocation move to the northwest.
Nulife Glass, which specialises in the recycling of electronic materials, has announced it is to open up a new industrial plant near Salford next month, according to Crain’s Manchester Business.
The move will create much-needed jobs in the manufacturing sector opening up positions for electricians, office staff and team leaders.

Sovex, one of the UK’s leading conveyor manufacturers, has appointed a new engineering director to its team.
David Chance has taken on the role with immediate effect and will be working from the company’s head quarters in Prenton on the Wirral, following its takeover of FKI Conveyors last December.
Mr Chance will be responsible for Sovex’s service and maintenance departments, offering other firms tailored operational contracts to help them look after conveyor equipment.

AstraZeneca, the UK’s second largest pharmaceutical drugs maker, has announced it is to cut 8,000 jobs worldwide.
The announcement is sure to upset the firm’s 11,000-strong British workforce, although official redundancy numbers within the UK have not been revealed.
AstraZeneca’s announcement comes as part of an international restructuring process to scale down operations and cut costs by over £1 billion.

The UK’s food production industry should be a priority for the government, an expert has stated.
Sarah Pettitt, chair of the National Farmers’ Union’s (NFU’s) horticulture board, argued that measures should be put in place to help the produce industry thrive.
Referring to the upcoming general election, she explained that supporting and developing the sector will be easier attempting to revive it after it is lost.

Half of household waste on Guernsey is to be recycled this year, if a target set by the state is to be met.
Bernard Flouquet of the island’s government was quoted by the BBC as saying people there should be proud of their record in this area.
He was commenting after the Public Services Department revealed that more than 8,700 tonnes of household materials were recycled last year, with the proportion of household waste in the breakdown standing at over 40 per cent.

Christophe Bourillon, director of communications at eBIO, explained that difficulty in raising capital for the building of plants can hold back the industry.
He was commenting after researchers from the University of Cambridge identified a way to increase the fermentable sugar stores in plants.

Enval, A UK provider of plastic recycling and environmental solutions, has announced it is to open a new site in Luton.
The announcement was made after Enval successfully developed a pioneering technology that is able to separate laminate and plastic compounds for recycling.
Over the past 12 months the company has been running a pilot scheme from Cambridge University, where they have created a process capable of recycling mixed compound products such as toothpaste tubes and aseptic drink cartons.

Replacing soy-based animal feed with refined wheat produce could help to save the rainforest.
That is the opinion of technology website The Engineer which stated this week that the development of biofuels in the UK could drive an increased supply of wheat-based animal feed.
Its comments came after a study by Ensus, as published in the scientific journal Global Change Biology – Bioenergy, showed the benefits of using wasted EU agricultural land to grow bio crops.

Industrial manufacturers Forbes, the UK’s leading maker of tanks, vessels, scrubbing columns & chemical plant in plastic materials, has revealed a new industrial plant in Scotland.
In addition, the company has also invested in rigorously updating its existing Norfolk site, according to Business Weekly.

The proposed new chair of the London Waste and Recycling Board has pledged to reduce waste in the capital, should he be appointed.
Mayor of London Boris Johnson announced that he is stepping down from the position and he has recommended assembly member for Bexley and Bromley James Cleverly to take over.
If confirmed, Mr Cleverly would oversee a budget of £84 million, with the aim of improving the city’s recycling record.
