RISI, the global provider of information for the forest products industry, has today announced a study into the potential growth of the biomass energy sector.
The publication, 2010 Wood Biomass Policy Review, will be the first of three multi-client studies to be released this year and aims to provide investors with a concise profile of the renewable energy sector across Europe and North America.
Over 25 years RISI has worked with 90 per cent of the global industry’s clients in sectors including wood biomass, timber, wood products, pulp and paper, tissue, nonwovens, printing and publishing, helping them to collate a wealth of data.
Using this experience, the purchase-only reviews will offer investors an overall picture of the industry.
In addition, the study also gives predictions on the supply and demand of wood biomass energy, which are not always complementary.
As of December last year 76 new wood pellet plants and 113 new wood-based biomass power plants had been announced in North America since 2007. However, according to RISI "not all of these will be built".
Robert Flynn, study author and RISI Director of International Timber, said he also hopes to give investors a better understanding of the role of government policies and how they can affect the trade.
