Yorkshire’s manufacturing sector has a ‘bright future’ and will continue to drive the county’s economy for years to come, a government minister has claimed.

Speaking as she toured the Bradford and Pudsey sites of engineering firm ATP Morley, the minister for Yorkshire, Rosie Winterton, expressed her confidence that the regional sector is well-equipped to meet the demands of the future.

In particular, she stated that she is confident that many manufacturing companies can emulate the success of ATP Morley, which recently scooped a Queen’s Award for International Trade after it doubled its export levels over the space of three years.

"Manufacturing is an important and significant part of the Yorkshire and Humber economy employing over 290,000 people and worth £14.4 billion to the region," Ms Winterton explained, according to the Bradford Telegraph and Argus.

"I am confident we have a bright future as a base for advanced manufacturing meeting the demands of customers worldwide."

At the end of last year, it was also reported that manufacturing firm Struers, which makes equipment for both aircraft and Formula 1 racing cars, is set to open a new base at the South Yorkshire Advanced Manufacturing Park.
