Manufacturing levels across Scotland have picked up again, new statistics have revealed.
According to the latest data released by the Confederation of British Industry (CBI) Scotland, output was up for the second consecutive quarter over the final three months of 2009.
Furthermore, the increase in production levels was seen to be at its fastest pace since July of 2006, with this in turn boosting confidence levels within the manufacturing sector and encouraging businesses to begin taking on workers again.
Announcing the figures, CBI Scotland director Iain McMillan, said: "These results provide further encouraging news for industry and indeed for the wider economy north of the Border.
"Challenges and risks do remain, however, business confidence levels have increased appreciably, reflecting the improvement witnessed across a broad range of indicators."
News of the upturn comes after the UK manufacturing sector was given a boost in the shape of a new £1 billion financing fund being made available by the Royal Bank of Scotland.
