Businesses in north Devon are being advised to chop their fuel costs by turning to locally-sourced wood for energy.
Firms from across a range of sectors including charity, commercial and industrial markets are being urged to take advantage of a government backed scheme to help them go green, according to the North Devon Gazette.
Businesses are able to access a share of the £1.5 million bioenergy capital grants providing they have an active interest in converting to biomass-fuelled heat.
As part of the South West Bioheat Programme, renewable energy agency Regen SW are working in partnership with the Forestry Commission and the South West Regional Development Agency to educate local businesses about the potential of biofuel.
Project manager Stephen Green told the news provider: "We are providing free masterclasses for people installing boilers, developing wood fuel supply, and applying for grants under the government-funded initiative."
He added that the initiative has already seen large growth in the biomass wood fuel sector from companies using local timber.
Bioenergy is expected to be one of the UK’s biggest growth sectors within the fuel energy industry as the nation looks for more sustainable sources of living.
