Wirral’s manufacturing industry has received a boost thanks to the beginning of a speciality tea contract in Moreton.
Typhoo will be creating ten new jobs in an operation to provide famous Knightsbridge store Harrods with fine teas, the Liverpool Echo reports.
Belt conveyors will be used at the facility, which employs 277 people, after the contract was moved from the south.
Typhoo chief executive Keith Packer told the newspaper that production at the Moreton facility "offers customers yet another alternative on existing or new products".
The speciality teas will be packed in one of three materials; metal caddies, cartons or gift packs.
Wallasey’s Labour MP Angela Eagle has welcomed news of the contract, saying it is testament to the sustained levels of investment in the Merseyside area.
Typhoo was established in Britain in 1903 and sells its products in more than 40 countries around the world including the US, South Africa and Australia.
Its brands include Melrose’s, Red Mountain Coffee and Ridgways.
