A Cheshire-based animal feed and fuel distributor has bucked the recession, reporting £2 million profits.

NWF group said good grazing conditions and lower prices for crude oil helped it to see profits rise by 1.1 per cent in the six months to November 2009, according to Crain’s Manchester Business.

Revenue at the firm’s food distribution arm also remained stable. Operating profit in this sector had the most substantial gains, increasing by 70 per cent to a record £1.7m.

NWF said this success was due to more distribution trucks returning with empty bulk storage containers, signalling an effective distribution process.

However, revenue from animal feed fell 16.6 per cent after a prolonged summer meant animals were grazing outdoors throughout autumn.

This resulted in the firm seeing a loss in weight feeders.

The company now hope to carry their success through 2010.

According to the news provider, the company’s chief executive Richard Whiting said that NWF is on track to deliver full year pre-tax profits of £6m.
