Demand for bulk material handling equipment, such as conveyors, elevators and hoppers, could increase thanks to a new scheme.

EEF, the manufacturers’ organisation, has successfully pushed forward a major initiative to boost manufacturing opportunities in East England.

The project will see a purpose-built office open in Cambridge where manufacturers can access information, business support and training, according to Business Weekly.

David Seale, EEF’s south east regional director, told the news provider he believes the region will be a major asset to the UK economy through its support of high-tech sectors such as biosciences and electronic engineering.

"The UK government has acknowledged the need to strengthen manufacturing to achieve a more balanced economy; one in which there is less financial engineering and more real engineering," he commented.

It is hoped greater support for the manufacturing industry may help to drive a demand for industrial machinery required for production, including en-masse elevators and heavy-duty conveyors.

According to EEF, manufacturing accounts for 55 per cent of all UK exports, positioning Britain as the world’s sixth largest manufacturing nation; a position it is "working diligently to improve". ADNFCR-2798-ID-19595475-ADNFCR
