The UK and Brazilian farming communities are joining forces to work on a collaborative project looking at agricultural development.
The LABEX initiative will see Brazilian researchers working with Warwickshire-based International Agri-Technology Centre Ltd (IATC) to develop agri-food science, according to Farming UK.
Sustainable agriculture specialist Dr David Dent told the farming news provider the initiative "provides a unique means of developing collaborative research programmes on a national scale that will benefit British and Brazilian farmers".
Brazilian scientist Dr Alexandre Amaral has already joined the project ahead of the official launch, which takes place in London on March 31st.
The exchange programme is being conducted in partnership with the Brazilian National Agricultural Research Institute (EMBRAPA) and it is hoped the UK will learn a lot about Brazil’s position as a global leader in the biofuels market.
Targets set by the Renewable Transport Fuel Obligation state that five per cent of the UK’s road fuel usage must be biofuel-based by 2010/11, making such international partnerships crucial.
Using vibratory separation equipment bio crops such as Soya can be broken down to produce both animal feed and ethanol, a renewable source of energy.
