Output from the manufacturing sector during December last year surpassed all expectations, new statistics have revealed.
Figures from the Office of National Statistics (ONS) show that output increased by 0.9 per cent, far exceeding predictions of a dismal 0.2 per cent improvement.
With output increasing across the sector, demand for industrial machinery such as flexible screw conveyors, en-masse elevators and flexible bulk containers may increase as firms look to expand their operations.
The wider industrial sector, including oil, gas and mineral extraction, also gained during the final month of 2009, jumping by 0.5 per cent.
Improving conditions in extraction companies could result in a need for heavy-duty conveyors and bucket elevators as more materials are processed.
The latest figures have created renewed confidence in the industry and will hopefully act as a safeguard to sanction jobs in the UK industry.
With manufacturing predicted to improve this year it is hoped demand will peak across the sector.
The figures pose a direct contrast to overall GDP which jumped by only 0.1 per cent in the final quarter of 2009, technically bringing the UK out of the recession.
