A global demand for meat-based produce is helping to keep the demand for grain feeders high.

According to Today Online, global consumption of meat is expected to increase some 3.4 per cent during 2010, pushing the demand for machinery needed to process animal feed.

"One of the most powerful paradigm shifts that drive the agricultural cycle is the growing population and the change in diet in emerging markets towards increasing protein consumption," says the news provider.

Despite the recession it says "the consumption of meat, and thus demand for animal feed, around the world has been resilient".

Manufacturers offering animal feed machinery such as gravimetric feeders, volumetric feeders and load cell weighing systems, may therefore receive a bumper year according to Today Online.

Although there has been a recent spate of environmentalists urging consumers to go veggie, in a bid to deter vast usage of agricultural land and the harmful gasses such as methane that come as a by-product of animal rearing, it seems demand for meat remains high and consumers have instead looked to other ways to reduce their carbon footprint.

If this dietary trend continues, those involved in the grain, feeders and distribution sectors should continue to reap the rewards throughout 2010.ADNFCR-2798-ID-19624387-ADNFCR
