A welsh home designer is hoping to create a branch of green jobs through its development of ‘recycled housing’.

Swansea-based house builder Affresol has created a line of affordable three bedroom homes with frame works made entirely from recycled plastics such as bottles and containers.

The scheme has the financial backing of the Welsh Assembly Government and could create opportunities for jobs in the construction and recycling sectors.

It adds a whole new dimension to so-called eco-housing, which usually promotes the use of sustainable materials and takes energy from natural resources such as wind power and sunlight.

If the scheme proves a success it could be rolled out to other locations across the UK, which would instigate the expansion of the recycling industry, boosting the role of handling equipment such as screw conveyors and chain conveyors.

Affresol managing director Ian McPherson told the BBC he thinks the housing initiative has great potential across the world as many countries look for more sustainable ways of living.

"Every country in the world has issues with waste and we now have an opportunity to turn waste into an enduring housing resource that is 100 per cent recyclable," he commented.
