A California-based food manufacturer has announced it is to open a new facility in Scotland.
Seafood Processor Lusamerica Foods says its procurement of the Trident Seafood plant in Fife could create around 60 jobs in the industry as well opportunities to expand operations, according to the Fife Free Press.
Company president Fernando Frederico said: "We plan to bring 50 to 60 new jobs to the Fife plant this year and up to 100 in the next two years."
Once operational in June this year, the facility will produce fresh and frozen products which are to be sold on a global scale.
As well as creating employment opportunities for administrators, drivers and processors, the facility could also benefit wider trade and industry such as machinery suppliers and logistics firms.
Ahead of the official launch, Lusamerica Foods announced its intention to expand product lines into the Pacific Northwest as well as targeting national and regional supermarkets within the UK.
Commenting on the firm’s move into Scotland, Susan Suess, of the Fife Council’s Economic Development Board, told the news provider they are thrilled to welcome the firm and will collaborate to make it a success.
