The Scottish food industry has been hailed as a world-leader by the International Culinary Tourism Association (ICTA) thanks in part to its industrial processes.

In its first ever global survey, the organisation found that the Highlands offers one of the most "unique, memorable and interesting" places for food and drink anywhere on the planet, according to the Scotsman.

The ITCA looked not only at the produce on offer but also at the larger manufacturing process, considering the way in which it is sourced, presented, packaged and distributed.

Training schemes available to professionals in the food industry were also a focus of attention.

Its recommendation could help to create new food handling facilities and employment within the Scottish food processing and manufacturing sectors if the reputation attracts investors, suppliers and wholesalers.

Those involved in the powder handling and storage business could therefore benefit from an expansion in Scotland’s food industry.

The study stated: "Specific reasons for its number one position include its ongoing commitment to the industry with adequate funding, dedicated staff, promotion of key industry partnerships and excellent consumer communications," the Scotsman reports.
