Increasing demand for mild beers could see the birth of new breweries in order to cope with productions.
According to statistics by CAMRA, the Campaign for Real Ale, some 64 per cent of drinkers said they noted a substantial rise in the number of mild beers being served in pubs and beer festivals.
The survey also revealed the beer that ale drinkers are most in favour of, which could provide welcome business for the relevant brewer.

The public have been invited to see chain conveyors in action as Scotland’s distilleries fling their doors wide open.
As part of the Spirit of Speyside Whisky Festival, some 50 distilleries in Scotland are to hold public open days where people can learn about the art of whisky making, the Caledonian Mercury reports.
Event chairman Jim Royan told the news provider the festival was an excellent way to create interest in the industry.

Plans for a mechanical biological treatment process (MBT) plant in North Lincolnshire have been submitted to the regional council.
Waste Recycling Group (WRG) is proposing to build the facility which will process all of the region’s household waste, the Scunthorpe Telegraph reports.
It comes as local authorities nationwide bid to reduce the amount of municipal waste sent to landfill as Britain moves to become waste-free.

Britain’s tobacco industry has been given an olive branch in the form of support by the Conservatives.
David Cameron’s party has offered to back a campaign by some of the UK’s biggest tobacco manufacturers calling for a reverse on regulation which prevents shops from showcasing cigarettes, the London Evening Standard reports.
It comes after several firms including Imperial Tobacco, Embassy, Lambert and Butler and British American Tobacco launched a legal case against the government.

Alison Cooper has revealed how she plans to take Imperial Tobacco forward.
In an interview with the Guardian, the business woman, who will be the first female to run a FTSE 100 company when she takes over at the tobacco firm next month, says she has ambitious plans for the brand.
In an ideal situation, Ms Cooper states that she would like to see the smoking ban reversed in a move that would benefit cigarette manufacturers nationwide.

Food manufacturers across the world are getting onboard the newly launched National Salt Reduction Initiative (NSRI).
While the scheme is the brainchild of New York City mayor Mike Bloomberg, the companies who have added their names to the project extend overseas and to the UK.
One such firm that has pledged to decrease its levels of salt in packaged foods is Kraft, which earlier this year won a successful takeover bid of British confectionary chain Cadburys.

Wales has today (April 29th) welcomed its largest ever plastics recycling plant.
The facility, which will initially process 12,000 tonnes of PET bottles annually, rising to 24,000 over the course of a year, was officially opened by Welsh environment minister Jane Davidson, letsrecycle.com reports.
Having successfully obtained two bouts of funding, to the tune of £1.3 million, the plant marks the first venture for start-up company Plastics Sorting Limited (PSL).

As the world bids to remove its dependence on fossil fuels, one professional has claimed that biofuels are "the new oil".
Addressing delegates at the Advanced Biofuels Leadership Conference in Washington, Philip New of oil giant BP announced the firm’s intention to compete with large-scale, profitable oil companies to make sustainable fuels a real possibility, Biofuels Digest reports.
Mr New, who is chief executive of the firm’s biofuels division, said: "[Biofuel is] the new oil, created from unlimited sources of frees biomass rather than the limited fossil resources of biomass."

A confectionary firm in Ireland has unveiled a ‘sweet’ expansion which could create up to 50 new jobs in the food industry.
Savage and Whitten, which is a major distributor of wholesale good such as groceries, confectionary and soft drinks, has announced expansion ambitions to the tune of £6 million, the Belfast Telegraph reports.
As part of the investment, the firm is to roll out an additional 25 stores across Northern Ireland under the brand name of Today Symbol, bringing its total portfolio to 60 properties.

One of Britain’s leading farming publications has today welcomed the government’s proposals to support the British food industry.
The Farmers Guardian referenced proposals unveiled by Hilary Benn, secretary of the Department for Environment Farming and Rural Affairs, which claimed that Labour would offer it "backing to British farmers" if it remains in power.
Among the measures is a pledge to work with the industry in order to eradicate bovine TB, which it says will be made possible through the development of a badger and cattle vaccine.
