Farmers in Scotland have called on the government to help them purchase basic necessities such as animal feed, it has been reported.
According to the BBC, the National Framers Union for Scotland (NFUS) has revealed the damaging effects that the prolonged winter has had on the industry.
It claims the persistent bad weather has hammered farm buildings and pushed up the price for animal feed, which is fast becoming essential as the lamming season starts.
As the demand for animal feed soars this is likely to please those in the supply and distribution sector of the industry.
Grain handling facilities may also require additional machinery such as mobile loading hoppers and flexible bulk containers to cope with the potential boom in business.
The NFUS’s appeal for finance follows what has been one of the coldest winters in recent history for Scotland.
As the majority of the UK welcomed the official start to British Summer Time last week, Scotland was left showing a slightly frostier reception as, now into April, snow continues to fall.
