A north east-based rapeseed oil brand is celebrating after securing a partnership with another UK firm to grow the business.
Northumberland and Border’s Oleifera has received a £100,000 investment from Culinary Oils, a Nottinghamshire-based company specialising in fresh produce, NE Business reports.
While, the partnership will now see the rapeseed product bottled at Culinary Oil’s own site, rather than at the previous facility at Coastal Grains in Belford, it will not affect the north-east growers.
Oleifera managing director Hugh Baker told the news provider this has allowed the two firms to strike the perfect balance and will allow them to safeguard all existing jobs.
He added: "Our over-riding concern has been to protect the continuous availability of the brand, together with the livelihoods of the Northumberland and Borders growers who will of course continue to produce the distinctive rapeseed from which the oil is pressed."
Mr Baker predicted that the new brand’s turnover is expected to reach between £250,000 and £300,000 in the first year.
Britain’s cold-pressed rapeseed market could benefit from the trend in healthy eating as it contains just six per cent saturated fat.
