A rise in so-called culinary tourism could provide a welcome boost to Britain’s food industry.

Professionals in the food manufacturing and food processing sectors will likely be seeing increased demand for their services and products as holidaymakers flock to markets, restaurants and catering attractions across the UK.

This could be of major benefit to suppliers of food handling equipment, such as hoppers and flexible bulk containers, if there is a step-up in productions.

According to the International Culinary Tourism Association (ICTA), food tourism is a burgeoning industry which is receiving more attention from tourists and tour operators alike.

"The awareness by tourist destinations of food tourism has been increasing for several years, and that trend is only growing," said ICTA president Erik Wolf.

In addition, a British survey by cottages4you found that food markets and restaurants are the top two factors when choosing a British town or city break.

Sainsbury’s chief executive Justin King recently remarked in the Times that he believes the future of British manufacturing lies with its food industry.
