The UK Food and Drink Federation (FDF) will announce their own pre-election manifesto, putting Britain’s food industry at the heart of the economic recovery.
Due to be launched tonight by President Ross Warburton, the organisation’s proposals include measures to ensure that a sustainable food sector is at the helm of the next government’s long-term strategy.
According to the FDF, its members are pivotal to the strength of Britain’s economy, as they create employment, investment and increase the nation’s export market potential.
"Government must support manufacturers, protect innovation through investment and through cutting the red tape, and back us in going green," states Mr Warburton.
In return, he claims, the government can be confident that food and drink will continue to be a "great British success story".
Investing in the UK’s food industry will please those in the bulk metering sector, if it proves to create more business, increased production and employment.
Food and drink production is the UK’s largest manufacturing sector, employing 440,000 people and generating exports of £9.65 billion in 2009.
