With more and more firms look to cut to the amount of waste they send to landfill, renewed pressure is being placed on UK recycling facilities.
As a result, additional waste handling sites may be required to cope with the increase in demand as the amount of municipal waste passing down conveyors up and down the country soars.
According to Retail Week, many retailers, including Ikea, M&S and Waitrose, have set self-imposed zero-waste targets, which they are striving to achieve over the next few years.
"The use of anaerobic digestion to generate energy from waste is another way retailers divert materials back into a supply chain," reveals the news provider.
This in-turn is creating relevant business for the renewable energy sector, creating jobs and investment across the bioenergy market.
With all three of the main political parties pledging to put environmental issues at the heart of their policies, whichever government comes to power following the election in May, recycling is a sector that is poised for substantial growth.
