Liberal Democrat leader Nick Clegg has revealed that his party is keen to offer incentives in order to boost recycling rates.
In an interview with letsrecycle.com ahead of tomorrow’s (May 6th) election, he said that businesses, communities and manufacturers should be offered assistance and subsequent rewards to help them go green.
One such policy his party is vying to adopt is a zero tolerance attitude to those who fail to recycle.
"What we need to do is to step up a gear, develop a zero-waste strategy and start providing the incentives that businesses and manufacturers need to design better products," he told the news provider.
Mr Clegg also hopes to urge manufacturers to cut pack on the amount of packaging they use, so that cleaner more efficient products will be coming off the conveyor belts.
While both Labour and the Conservatives have pledged to create a wave of green investment, the Liberal Democrats claim their rivals are more concerned with recycling rates than practicalities.
Investing in Britain’s waste handling sector could provide a huge boost to manufacturers if it creates new facilities, employment and business.
