As meat consumption continues to rise in Western society, the demand for animal feed is soaring, new research suggests.
According to animal nutrition specialist Monti Feeds, the agricultural community is becoming ever more dependent on firms who can process, supply and store high-quality produce, Food and Drink Digital reports.
The firm’s managing director Romain Trousset told the news provider that the demand on the industry has required it to adapt quickly, adopting new technologies and systems in order to keep up with the competition.
For example, he reveals that while much of the work is still carried out physically, a lot of it is now monitored and assessed using digital systems.
"It used to be the case that we would weigh our products manually," he told the news provider.
"Now [we] weigh the product out automatically, using the computers. It’s a far more reliable system."
Meat consumption has grown 500 per cent since the 1950s and is expected to continue to increase by two per cent each year, according to statistics from WorldWatch.
