A Scottish rapeseed producer has sealed a deal to provide 15 ASDA stores with its produce.

Mackintosh of Glendaveny is to see three of its gourmet rapeseed oils rolled out across the supermarket giant’s premises in north-east Scotland, the Scotsman reports.

Gregor Mackintosh, founder of the company, told the news provider the contract places the business at a "very exciting stage", with huge opportunities for growth.

"We have recruited production and sales and marketing staff and are looking carefully at further expansion," he commented.

He went on to say that the firm would continue to supply local stockists who have provided it with the much-needed custom to expand since its establishment.

Britain’s rapeseed suppliers could witnesses increased demand for their produce this year after the British Heart Foundation concluded that the low-fat oil can, like olive oil, significantly reduce the risk of certain chronic illnesses, as stated by cardiac nurse June Davison.

Oleifera, based in Northumberland, recently received a £100,000 investment from Nottinghamshire’s Culinary Oils to ramp up its rapeseed productions.
