While England’s performance on the sporting field while remain to be seen, the real winner of the 2012 Olympics could be Britain’s food industry.
Ubiquitous catering giant McDonalds has teamed up with the London Organising Committee of the Olympic Games (LOCOG) to promote the UK’s prospering food and agricultural sectors during the international event.
As well as using images of British farmers and suppliers across its marketing campaign, McDonalds has also pledged that one in every five meals it delivers during the Olympic games will be sourced from British food firms.
Lord Coe, LOCOG chairman, hailed it as the ideal opportunity to showcase the diversity and potential of the UK’s food sector.
"The sheer scale of providing 14 million meals in just four weeks means this is a genuine opportunity for British agriculture," he commented.
Advertising showcased during the event could attract a wealth of business from overseas purchasers and act to boost the UK’s food export capacity.
