If Britain’s burgeoning food industry needed further cause for celebration, it may have it.
Food expert Alexia Robinson, who has organised the campaign Love British Food and foodie festival British Food Fortnight, claims that British produce is among the best in the world.
Commenting on a study by Berlin-based consumer watchdog group Stiftung Warentest, which found that organic food has no health, taste or nutritional advantages, she said that what is most important to consumers is quality – something the UK is famed for.
"Certainly it is the case that a lot of food which is not organic, and a lot of farmers who are not certified organic, are still in Britain, producing some of the highest quality food in the world, [which is] produced to the highest quality of animal welfare standards," remarked Ms Robinson.
According to the 2010 Organic Market report, more than 60 per cent of the UK’s biggest organic brands are planning for growth in the coming year, as the food industry goes from strength-to-strength.
