The animal feed industry could witness a major upsurge in business, a new report suggests.

Animal Feed Additives: A Global Strategic Business Report, complied by Global Industry Analysts, reports that despite the recession, the medium to long-term outlook for the feed industry remains encouraging.

One of the factors driving this growth is the increased presence of animal feed additives.

It claims that the need for additives has been caused by a rising global consumer demand for meat products that are recognised as nutritional, health foods.

"Consumption of meat across the globe has increased substantially over the years, thereby transforming feed additives into lucrative business product," reveals the report.

With livestock rearing on the rise, the Food Standards Agency recently unveiled measures that aim to simplify the p feed stock recording process, thereby reducing the amount of time feed specialists have to spend filling in paperwork.

Reports by the UN suggest that meat consumption has doubled over the past 50 years, a growth rate that is expected to be exceeded over the next five decades.
