The president of the UK’s Food and Drink Federation is today (June 10th) expected to highlight the potential of Britain’s food industry.

Ross Warburton will reportedly tell delegates at Campden Day Lecture that the UK’s food and drinks sector is capable of catering to a growing population and the demands of climate change, according to StockMarketWire.com

The news provider reveals that Mr Warburton will say: "I am convinced that technology in all its many guises will play a vital role in underpinning the food industry’s collective response to a future world impacted by the challenge of climate change and energy shortages."

He is also expected to touch upon the government’s role in supporting the sector and will call for greater investment in food manufacturers.

Britain’s food industry has served up some profitable returns so far this year.

The Warburton’s family bakers last week revealed that pre-tax profits for the year ending September 26th 2009 had risen by more than £5.2 million to reach £62.7 million.

Warburton’s also reported a year-on-year sales increase of six per cent, taking total revenues to £510.8 million.
