A £5 million waste recycling scheme designed for flat residents has been approved by The London Waste and Recycling Board (LWaRB).
The initiative will see flats across the capital fitted with dedicated recycling chutes and underground collection containers while there will also be incentive schemes, reports letsrecycle.com.
Recycling in London flats is difficult due to the limited space and safety fears, but flats produce 40 per cent of the city’s waste.
Clyde Loakes, LWaRB board member, was delighted that the organisation were addressing the issue.
He told the website: "I am thrilled that the Board are investing in helping London look at ways to improve recycling from flats.
"The fund will allow boroughs to share best practice in this area, to improve existing schemes as well as looking at new ways to make recycling as easy as possible for everyone."
The move will increase the demand for recycling machinery across the city as more boroughs sign up for the scheme.
