A new £7.5 million recycling depot has opened in North Devon in a move which could increase demand for machinery in the area.

Council officials have confirmed that recycling operations will be carried out at the Brynsworthy Environment Centre in Barnstaple.

In addition to boosting local industry, developers have included an education room and viewing platform to ensure schoolchildren learn about the importance of recycling.

Councillor Richard Edgell, lead member for assets, expressed his belief that the move would help develop local recycling in the future.

He said: “This has been a large and challenging project for our team and we now have a superb facility that will benefit not only our service operations but also provides the community with a valuable resource.”

The depot will be officially opened later in year and will employ over 100 staff.
