£500,000 recycling plant has opened in Derby which could boost recycling rates in the area.
Veolia Environmental Services has launched the new facility at a site in Castle Donnington.
The new plant will be able to annually process around 30,000 tonnes of recyclable material, such as paper, cardboard and cans, from 2,500 local businesses.
Increased recycling rates in the area could result in a higher demand for waste processing machinery.
Tom Spaul, chief operating officer at Veolia, claimed more firms will be tempted to recycle as they will no longer have to separate waste into different categories.
He said: “Consumers and businesses are becoming more aware of the need to turn waste into a resource.
“We are going to make it easier for our customers to recycle by offering a commingled collection service where the customer can have one bin to dispose of card, paper, plastic and cans.”
Typical Guttridge equipment used in the recycling includes; conveyors – screw conveyors – chain conveyors – belt conveyors
