The Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) is in favour of kerbside recycling collections, it has been revealed.
In a document published today, (July 8th) Defra claims the introduction of kerbside collections would help the UK implement an EU directive, reports letsrecycle.com.
The framework states all member nations must set up separate collections of paper, plastic, glass and metal by 2015 and ensure recycling methods are of a high quality.
It said: “Defra and the Welsh Assembly Government support and endorse WRAP’s [a waste sustainability organisation] assessment that kerbside sort should be preferred where this is practicable; and where this is not two streams commingled collections are preferable over single-stream collections.”
The switch to kerbside collections could provide a welcome boost to the recycling industry as more people could be encouraged to recycle if it was more convenient.
Typical Guttridge equipment used in the recycling industry includes; conveyors – screw conveyors – chain conveyors – belt conveyors
