Amazon has launched a new online supermarket offering UK customers a range of fresh food and goods.

The online retailer will sell over 22,000 brand names including Kraft, Nestle, Pepsi, Walkers, and Oreo.

James Leeson, director of grocery at Amazon, claimed the new online store offers customers a convenient way to do their shopping.

He said: “Amazon.co.uk’s aim is to be the place where customers can find and discover any product they want to buy online, and with the introduction of this new store there are thousands of household, niche, ethnic and international grocery items, all available at the click of a button.”

Users will also get the chance to bulk-buy goods such as nappies, washing powder, pasta, rice, cooking oils and spices.

The news will be welcomed by those in the food industry as production could increase to cope with the growing demand for goods.
