Farmers attended a free safety event in Newmarket yesterday (July 9th) which outlined the correct use of farming machinery.
Around 300 people gathered to learn how to reduce the risk of injury and death at the Safety and Health Awareness Day.
David Head, HM principal inspector of health and safety, underlined the importance of being vigilant while operating machinery.
He said: “These demonstrations are designed to show just how easily accidents can happen. They will give farmers a clear message about the precautions they need to take to help protect themselves, their families and employees from harm.
“We expect farmers to put the safe systems of work demonstrated at the event into practice.”
During the past year, 45 people in the UK died in agricultural accidents and 1,500 people were seriously injured.
Typical Guttridge equipment used in the farming industry includes: conveyors – screw conveyors – chain conveyors – belt conveyors
