The number of cattle slaughtered in the UK has significantly increased in the past 12 months, it has been revealed.
The total prime cattle kill was nine per cent higher in the first half of 2010 in comparison to the same time last year, reports meattradenewsdaily.com
Higher meat yields have been largely attributed to the increased supply of young bulls.
Since the start of 2010, over 39,000 young bulls have been killed in Northern Ireland, compared to around 25,200 in the same period last year – a rise of 55 per cent.
The majority of these calves come from the dairy herd as more male dairy calves have been registered in the UK and fewer have been exported to Europe since 2007.
The news will be welcomed by the animal feed industry as further meat production will result in increased demand for feed.
Typical Guttridge equipment used in the animal feed industry includes; elevators – bucket elevators – valves
