The UK farming and food production industries will play an integral role in the economic recovery, it has been claimed.
Caroline Spelman MP, secretary for DEFRA, claimed the markets will help drag the UK out of recession, reports fwi.co.uk.
She told MPs at a Morrison’s event in London: “Absolutely central to this is the success of British food and farming. The sector has fared better than other sectors during the recession and that is because British consumers want to support what you do.”
Her comments were backed up by Peter Kendall, president of the National Farmers Union, who claimed farmers are central to the recovery.
DEFRA will also encourage the public sector to produce more food which meets the Red Tractor standard.
The news will be welcomed by those in the respective industries as boosted production will lead to increased demand for more machinery.
Typical Guttridge equipment used in the food production industry includes; conveyors – screw conveyors – chain conveyors – belt conveyors
