Johnstone’s Bakers has trebled its turnover in just three years following the introduction of new machinery.
The Scottish firm posted revenue of £7.4 million last year, an increase of £5.3 million compared to 2007 when turnover was just £2.1 million.
Johnstone’s officials claim the company’s relocation to a state-of-the-art building with new equipment was the main driving force behind the improved figures.
Following the increased demand for the Connie’s Cake brand, the firm plans to spend £400,000 on an enrobing machine and a machine which enables the bakery to make its own chocolate on-site.
Mark Thomas, the new managing director of the firm, said: “This is a very exciting time for the company, and I am delighted to be part of it.
“The Connie’s Cakes brand in particular is in great demand and we will continue to invest and expand to meet global demand.”
Throughout the last three years, Johnstone’s has secured contracts to supply its goods to the US, Australia and Russia.
