Welsh brewing giant SA Brain and Co is considering expanding its operations by launching a takeover bid for a Swansea restaurant.

The company is interested in the Penthouse restaurant, which is located at the top of the 350ft Meridian Tower, reports thisissouthwales.co.uk.

Should the deal go ahead, it would highlight the continued recovery of the brewing industry which had been hit by the recession.

Russell Greenslade, manager of Swansea’s Business Improvement District, an organisation which represents local firms, claims Brains would be welcome to make a move for the site.

He said: “Brains is a Welsh historic company and something we should be proud of being the second city. Brains has grown quite dramatically and they have put their faith in customers in this area.

“It is a welcome business to take on a landmark building and make it work.”

Penthouse closed in April 2010 after just six months of trading.
