Plans for a new waste-to-energy plant in Manchester have been submitted to Salford council.
Sky Properties intend to construct a new facility which will be able to generate an estimated 10MW of electricity for the national grid and process 240,000 tonnes of commercial waste a year.
The Green Lane Eco Park site would consist of a gasification plant – which could generate both heat and power- a materials recycling facility and anaerobic digestion technology. .
Anthony Hirsch, of Sky Properties, said: “The Green Lane Eco Park offers the opportunity to regenerate disused employment land through an investment of £70 million in the local community, creating jobs and training placements and supporting local businesses by offering a more cost-effective and environmentally friendly way of managing local business waste.”
The huge investment could result in an increased demand for waste-to-energy machinery.
Sky Properties aims to start building on the site next year and plan to complete the project by 2013.
