A new brewery opened in Leeds last week is further good news for the recovering brewing industry.

Local MP Greg Mulholland and England cricketer Craig White officially opened the Wharfebank Brewery last Friday (July16th).

As Chair of the All-Party Parliamentary Save the Pub Group and CAMRA Parliamentary Campaigner of the Year, Mr Mulholland is a keen promoter for the local brewing industry.

He expressed his delight at the construction of the new facility and hoped it could emulate the success of local firm Tetley’s.

“I am very excited to have an excellent new brewery in the constituency, brewing a range of great beer, and really pleased to see it is now being served in a number of local pubs,” he said.

The development of the Leeds brewing industry could also lead to an increased uptake of machinery in the region.

It follows the news that Welsh brewery SA Brains is currently considering expanding its operations by purchasing a Swansea-based restaurant.
