The baking industry has been boosted by the announcement that Lees Foods has registered record sales in its Lees of Scotland and The Waverley Bakery divisions.

Lees revealed that sales were up nine per cent in the first six months of 2010 to £9.62 million, compared to £8.85 million in the same period last year.

The firm also confirmed that it expected pre-tax profits for the first half of the year to be higher than the 2009 figure of £394,000.

A statement from the firm said: “The company remains cautiously optimistic in respect of the second half of the year and expects that both sales and pre-tax profits will be ahead of market forecasts for the full year.”

The sound financial report highlights the thriving nature of the baking industry, and could result in increased uptake of industry-related machinery.

Lees is expecting to replicate their good performance in the second half of 2010 and expects to beat market forecasts for the full year.
