bakery is set to expand its operations after securing lucrative export deals with firms in the US and Far East.
Reids of Caithness has already received preliminary orders from wholesalers in North Carolina and Singapore for a combined total of £5,000, reports johnogroat-journal.co.uk.
The new agreement could result in an increase in the firm’s workforce, with the small family-run business planning to increase staff levels from 30 to around 100 over the next five years.
Gary Reid, director of Reids of Caithness, claimed the firm had to develop and promote a new range of products to secure the contracts.
He told the news provider: “The success has come about because we have been exhibiting at shows and people have been coming from all over looking for something different. All have been impressed by our biscuit and cake products.”
Following the dispatch of the goods at the end of the month, Reids could require more machinery to cope with the increased production demand.
The bakery was recently awarded a three-gold-star rating for its Caithness butter shortbread in the national Great Taste Awards.
