Cardiff council has signed a new waste processing contract with composting firm New Earth Solutions.

The company will process around 25,000 tonnes of food and garden waste at its Gloucestershire plant during the year-long deal.

New Earth could require more machinery to cope with the increased amount of waste it needs to treat at the plant.

Chris Cox, New Earth managing director, claimed the partnership would help divert waste from the landfill.

He said: “New Earth is pleased to support Cardiff council in this project – Recycling Together. We continue to grow and add new local authority customers, recycling and diverting biodegradable waste that would otherwise go for landfill.”

Cardiff has been collecting food waste at the kerbside for the past two years. It was treated at Vital Earth’s processing facility until the contract expired earlier this month.
