Bulk material handling equipment could be used to clear a coal tip in Wales, it has been revealed.
Bersham Glenside Limited (BGL) will remove around six million tonnes of spoil from the Bersham Colliery tip in Wrexham, reports bbc.co.uk.
The firm may require bulk material machinery in order to remove such a large amount of material from the site.
Historic monuments agency Cadw and local residents were opposed to its removal, as they claimed it was part of the region’s cultural heritage
However, the Welsh Assembly government has confirmed that BGL can clear the site, with the company claiming it will preserve historical features and listed buildings.
Workers are set to begin clearing the mine within a few months in a project which may take up to nine years to complete.
Around 300 miners were left unemployed when the site closed in 1986.
