Signs that the cereal industry is currently thriving have been underlined by one firm’s application for a new plant to cope with demand.

Flour miller Whitworth Brothers has submitted plans to Wellingborough council for a new processing facility, in addition to new storage and distribution buildings, reports The Northamptonshire Evening Telegraph.

The proposals will be welcomed by flour millers and those in the cereal industry as they highlight the growth of the sector despite the tough economic climate.

Thomas Pursglove, Croyland ward councillor, expressed his delight at the potential move which would create 44 jobs.

He told the news provider: “I certainly welcome efforts to create private sector job opportunities in our borough and any enhancement or expansion of firms that for many years have helped to put the town on the map.”

The new plant will have six floors and will operate in conjunction with the firm’s current facility in the area.
