The Welsh biomass industry could benefit from improved wood supply, it has been revealed.

The National Assembly for Wales' sustainability committee has made a number of recommendations to the Welsh government on how to stimulate supply to the sector in the future, reports newenergyfocus.com.

The body researched into the flow of wood into the market following a recent report which claims that demand would start to exceed potential availability after 2012.

It advises the government to introduce restrictions on sending wood to the landfill, as well as recovering wood from the Assembly Government Woodland Estate.

The Wood Panel Industries Federation (WPIF), who assisted the committee in the report, claimed large power stations often run on large quantities of timber.

It told the news provider: "We are really concerned about the support given to large-scale electricity-only generation.

"We are concerned about the 50 MW-plus electricity-only generation plants that are getting large scale support from the renewable obligation certificates."
