The brewing industry could see an increase in production following brewer's attempts to make beer more appealing to women.

The latest Cask Report revealed that women now account for a sixth of all cask-beer drinkers, while the number of female beer drinkers has doubled to 1.3 million over the past 12 months.

This has largely been driven by a number of brewers launching drinks which are designed for women, reports morningadvertiser.co.uk.

Molson Coors has set up its BitterSweet Partnership to help change women's perception of beer which has resulted in the release of a light beer called Blue Moon

Kristy McCready, BitterSweet communications partner, said: "The beer industry has alienated women by focusing primarily on men when it comes to product development, marketing and innovation.

"Our aim is to come up with real solutions to encourage women to re-evaluate the beer category."

Sharp's brewery will release a new half-pint glass to encourage more women to try its beer, while Heineken UK is looking to make its brand more appealing to women.
