The Welsh biomass industry could be boosted by the construction of a new recycling plant which will provide wood fuel to the sector.
Cardiff Landscaping and Maintenance Services has been awarded a £15,763 grant to set up a green recycling centre
The firm will collect waste timber from contractors before processing it into wood chip and mulch which can be used as biomass fuel.
Industry officials will welcome the news the plant is expected to process up to 2,000 tonnes of timber in 12 months, while the rising production levels could also mean an increase in demand for biomass machinery.
Owen Hughes, managing director of Cardiff Landscaping, claimed the firm will be able to clear a significant amount of waste wood from sites.
He told walesonline.co.uk: "Companies are becoming more aware of environmental issues and the potential for savings by recycling, and it is the ideal time to offer these services now that the construction industry is beginning to proceed with new projects now that the current economic conditions are stabilising."
The new facility is expected to be operational within the next 10 weeks.
