The European dairy farm sector has been handed a 300 million euro (£249 million) grant to help restructure the industry.
The European Parliament's Agriculture Committee decided to pump the extra finance into the industry despite awarding dairy farmers around 280 million euros (£232 million) last year.
All European farmers, including those in deprived areas, will profit from the grant, which will also be used to fund market research, reports fwi.co.uk.
The EU Farm Prices and Margins Observatory, which analyses the difference between what farmers receive for goods and the amount consumers pay, will be among the beneficiaries of the fund.
Alyn Smith, a Scottish National Party MEP, claimed the fund is a "useful tool" for farmers, although he warned exports must decrease if the industry is to flourish.
He told the news provider: "If farmers are not making money from the market then there is no amount of other mechanisms that will encourage folk to stay in farming. The net effect of exporting our food production is potentially catastrophic."
