Recycling plants in West Devon could be boosted by the introduction of a new waste initiative in the region.
West Devon Borough council will begin rolling out the new waste and recycling collection scheme to all 24,000 households in the area by the end of the month.
For the first time, plastic bottles will be collected at the kerbside, along with mobile phones, textiles, batteries and spectacles.
Weekly food waste collections will also be available to all residents. The service is currently limited to a select number of households in the borough.
Robert Sampson, chairman of the council's environment and community committee, claimed residents would benefit from the new programme.
He said: "We are extending the service borough wide so that all residents will now receive the same level of service.
"We will be achieving our landfill diversion and recycling targets and reaping the environmental benefits whilst making considerable costs savings."
