The recycling rate for household electricals and electronic goods has increased in a welcome boost to the recycling industry.
Around 44 per cent of all electronic goods released onto the market were collected at the kerbside and recycled in the second quarter of 2010, according to The Environment Agency.
It represents a ten per cent increase in recycling rates compared to the whole of 2009, with 119,013 tonnes of household electrical equipment recycled out of a possible 268,642 tonnes.
A record number of small appliances were collected, as 6,301 tonnes of household goods such as kettles were recycled between April and June 2010.
Mark Prisk, business minister, told letsrecycle.com: "I am pleased to see that the second quarter data shows record levels of waste electricals being separately collected.
"It is particularly encouraging to see that this increase is largely attributed to higher volumes of small electricals being sent for recycling by householders."
Typical Guttridge equipment used in the waste recycling industry includes; elevators – bucket elevators – valves
